How to convert an image

- Pick the format you want with the format picker. Leave it on Auto and PNG or HEIF files become JPG, while everything else becomes PNG.

Choosing a format
- WEBP: smaller files at the same visual quality. A good default for websites.
- JPG / JPEG: the same format with two names. Works everywhere and suits photos, but has no transparency.
- PNG: lossless, keeps transparency, bigger files.
- HEIF: what iPhones save photos as (.heic files). You can convert it to anything here, but you can’t convert to it.
- BMP: uncompressed. Mostly useful for older software.
- ICO: used for favicons and Windows app icons.
Frequently asked questions
Does converting an image reduce its quality?
Every conversion runs at full quality by default, so PNG, WEBP, BMP and ICO output looks identical to the original. JPG is the exception. It’s a lossy format, so it compresses a little even at full quality, but you’d rarely see the difference.
Is it safe to convert private photos with this tool?
Yes. Conversion happens in your browser, and your images are never sent to ComputerKite or anyone else.
Can I convert several images at once?

Which image formats can I convert between?
You can upload PNG, JPG, JPEG, WEBP, HEIF, BMP, GIF or SVG and convert to PNG, JPG, JPEG, WEBP, BMP or ICO. If you don’t pick a target, PNG and HEIF files become JPG and everything else becomes PNG. Pick a format with the format picker to override that.
How do I convert HEIC photos from my iPhone to JPG?
Drop the .heic or .heif files onto the box. They become JPG by default, so you can download them straight away. Many websites and older apps don’t accept HEIC, while JPG opens almost everywhere.
What is the difference between JPG and PNG?
JPG makes small files and suits photos, but it has no transparency. PNG is lossless and keeps transparent backgrounds, so logos, screenshots and graphics stay sharp, though the files are bigger.
Is WEBP better than JPG?
For websites, usually. WEBP files are typically smaller than JPG at similar visual quality, which helps pages load faster. JPG is still the safer choice when the image has to open in every app and on older devices.
Can I make a favicon from my logo?
Yes. Choose ICO as the output format. Square images work best, and anything larger than 256 pixels is scaled down to fit the ICO limit.
