How many years is BS ahead of AD?
BS is about 56 years and 8 months ahead. For dates from mid-April to December, add 57 to the AD year, and from January to mid-April, add 56. The exact result depends on the day, so use the converter for official work.
Why can I not convert BS to AD by simple subtraction?
BS months have between 29 and 32 days, and the length of each month differs from year to year. A fixed year offset gives wrong dates, so a lookup of real calendar data is needed.
What are the months of the Nepali calendar?
The 12 BS months are Baisakh, Jestha, Ashadh, Shrawan, Bhadra, Ashwin, Kartik, Mangsir, Poush, Magh, Falgun and Chaitra. The new year begins on Baisakh 1, in mid-April.
