How Reading: Fill in the Blanks is scored on the real exam
Each dropdown is scored on its own, one point for the correct word and zero for anything else, with no partial credit for a word that's close in meaning. Since there's no shared word bank to work through, the four choices in each dropdown are usually built to test one specific distinction, like a word that fits grammatically but changes the meaning, or a near-synonym that doesn't collocate naturally with the rest of the sentence.
Read the full passage before choosing anything. The correct word for an earlier blank sometimes only becomes clear once you've read a sentence further down, so filling blanks strictly in order can lock in a wrong answer you'd have caught otherwise.
